Back-To-School

2018
The importance of attaining a sound primary education cannot be understated. With the distribution of almost 200 bookbags and school supplies to four schools in Regions 4 and 6.

The back-to-school drive started at Winfer Gardens Primary and was attended by officials of the company, headmistress of the school, teachers, and parents among others. The attendees welcomed the company’s initiative and expressed gratitude for the “timely contribution which will make the lives of many parents a bit easier,” as they prepare to send their children out for the new school term which begins next month.

The next stop was Golden Grove Primary; this location was packed with children from the village who were eager to receive backpacks. Parents were also in attendance. They mentioned how much of a relief this gesture would provide to their pockets since most of them have not purchased school supplies as yet.

The team then travelled to Berbice and made their presentation of supplies to students of the Rose Hall Estate Primary. This is the school the Country Manager of the company, Mr. Sheldon Davis attended, so it was especially nostalgic for him being there, to present it to the institution which helped to mould him. He implored the students to take their education seriously since they are the future of Guyana. He noted too that CTLS will continue to play its role in the education sector and will also empower women and girls.

The last stop was at Rose Hall Town Primary on the Corentyne.

2019
A locally owned and operated oil and gas support services company, recently organised back to school drives to prepare children of rural communities for their return to school this week. In a press release, CTLS, which is in its second year of operation here, said that in a back to school drive last Saturday, it deployed two teams to the communities to distribute school supplies inclusive of book bags and classroom stationery.

The CTLS teams visited the Betsy Ground Primary School and McGowan Primary School in Berbice and the Fort Island Primary School and surrounding villages in Essequibo. The teams presented the items to just over 200 youths, as parents, teachers and village residents also showed up to show their support. According to the release, John Quelch, a representative of the organisation, stated that the annual mission is a demonstration of the company’s support for community strengthening and youth development, especially in the rustic and less supported areas of Guyana. “We are pleased and honoured to be giving back to our communities in a way that empowers and strengthens our youth in a productive way, and builds their capacity for education at such an early stage in their lives,” he was quoted as saying.

COVID-19 Hamper

During the Coronavirus Pandemic here in Guyana, CTLS has made valiant efforts and contributions to ensure members of depressed communities were supplied with adequate pantry and food supplies through our joint venture with the Berbice Chamber of Commerce.

Xmas Toy Drive

For many villages across Guyana, Christmas is a time to share in the beauty of community spirit and the meaning of family, hope and the gift of giving. This past Christmas Day, our team here at CTLS was able to share in this community spirit, as we volunteered this holiday to the little village of Betsy Ground, in East Canje Berbice, for our annual Christmas Toy Drive. What has now become an annual staple for us here at CTLS, we once again reached out to the children of this rural community in an effort to aid their enjoyment of the Christmas Season. Over 150 children, ranging from age 1 to 16, from Betsy Ground and surrounding villages in East Canje Berbice all flustered to our bus, with tear-filled eyes and bright smiles. Although hard to tell, the small farmers’ village boasts somewhere around 900 persons of all ethnicities and races, with diversified economic backgrounds; and as our host Sherika mentioned: “all ah we is one family” This annual mission is a demonstration of the company’s support for community strengthening and youth development, especially in the rural and less supported areas of Guyana. As part of our corporate social responsibility, we feel absolute pride in giving back to our communities in a way that fosters community spirit and supports families, especially in this season of goodwill and hope.
